PRODUCT SPECIFICATION SHEET

Rice is the staple food for two-thirds of the world’s population. This simple grain has been a popular life sustaining food for thousands of years because it is nutritious, versatile, economical, easy to prepare and tastes good. Rice is one of the chief grains of India.

Rice is mainly cultivated in wetlands of India, which is called as Marutham in Tamizh language. The peoples of Marutham land are specialist in rice cultivation, water management and also experts in warfare.

All other varieties of rice, except basmati is called as non- basmati rice. Non-basmati rice includes rice of different varieties, sizes, and shapes. Some types of rice are long and slender, while some are short and thick. Non- Basmati Rice is used in homes for daily use and also is used and exported for commercial use.

Rice in its original state is called “paddy rice”. It is treated by polishing it to remove the outer part around the grain. It can be sold as whole grain, after the first stage of polishing, or as white rice if more polished.  Several grades of polishing exist.  Rice can also be parboiled, meaning it is partially boiled in its husk, to better retain micro-nutrients, especially vitamin B1 which prevents Beriberi. Parboiled rice is also referred to as “easy-cook rice” or “converted rice”. When parboiled, the content of ungelatinized grains in the rice will be verified.

Ponni rice

Ponni rice is named after the Kaveri River, also known as Ponni in Tamil Nadu. The Kaveri River delta, which includes the Tamil Nadu districts of Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, and Tiruvarur, is where the Ponni rice was initially cultivated.

The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, which crossed two existing rice varieties to create a new hybrid variety, is credited with the invention of Ponni rice. Since then, it renowned for its distinct flavour, aroma, and texture, has gained popularity and been widely cultivated throughout South India.

The term “Ponni” in Tamil means “gold,” and the rice is named after the river due to its golden hue and rich taste.  It is a popular rice variety recognised for its aroma, taste, and soft texture and frequently used to make meals like daily meals, idli, dosa, and biryani in South Indian cuisine. It is a nutritious food choice since it is also high in nutrients including minerals, fibre, and carbs.

Ponni Boiled Rice has a soft texture, delicate flavour, and unique aroma. It is a kind of rice that has undergone a partial husk-boiling process. Most commonly, boiled rice is used to prepare rice, noodles, pastries, and sweets.

Ponni raw rice is uncooked or unprocessed Ponni rice grain. Raw Ponni rice is a popular variety of rice that is known for its long, slender grains and its ability to cook quickly.

Boiled broken rice is a dish created from rice grains that have broken during the milling process. Broken rice has a comparable nutritional content to whole grain rice, but because of its smaller size and broken pieces, it is frequently sold at a lesser price.
