Withania somnifera, also known as Ashwagandha or Indian ginseng or winter cherry is an annual evergreen shrub in the Solanaceae or nightshade family. The species name “somnifera” means “sleep-inducing” in Latin. The name “ashwagandha” is a combination of the Sanskrit words ‘ashva’, meaning horse, and ‘gandha’, meaning smell, reflecting that the root has a strong horse-like odor. Ashwagandha roots are stout, long tuberous, fleshy, whitish brown, used in Ayurveda as remedy to treat- fatigue, joint pain, stress, anxiety, etc. Its medicinal properties are due to the presence of naturally occurring steroids- ‘Withanolides’ which are the active ingredient of Ashwagandha.

Shelf life
Products are supplied with a minimum of 24 months to recommended shelf life when stored sealed in original packaging under proper storage conditions. To maintain the product in best condition it is advisable to protect it from exposure to pests and extremes of moisture, light and temperature.

20 – 25 kg, PP Kraft Bags with heat sealed inner poly liner. Other options can be suggested.

Uses
- Ashwagandha has various health and medicinal uses. It’s roots are used for making a vital tonic. It is known to be a stress reliever and useful for senile dysfunctions.
- Ashwagandha is also said to be useful in controlling anxiety, depression, phobias, alcoholic paranoia so on, and so forth.
- Ashwagandha is also said to be helpful to reduce blood sugar levels through its effects on insulin secretion and sensitivity.
- Some studies and tests also state that withaferin, a bioactive compound in ashwagandha, promotes the death of tumor cells. Therefore, Ashwagandha may be effective against several types of cancer too.
